HANSEATIC nature is the first of Hapag-Lloyd Cruises’ three next-generation expedition ships from Hamburg, launched in 2019. Together with her identical sister ships — HANSEATIC spirit (2021) and HANSEATIC inspiration (2019) — she sails to some of the most remote destinations in the polar regions.
Design and Comfort:
• All 120 spacious cabins and suites offer ocean views, with a large number featuring private balconies. Cabins can be booked with either a double bed or two single beds.
• A maximum of 199 guests travel on each Antarctic departure, ensuring a more personal and comfortable experience. As only 100 guests may go ashore at any one time in Antarctica, this allows an excellent balance of shore landings, Zodiac excursions, and other activities during the voyage.
• A highlight onboard are the two extendable glass observation platforms, each 10 meters long and 2 meters wide.
• Guests enjoy open seating during the day across three restaurants: the main restaurant with 178 seats serving meals from morning to evening, the specialty restaurant “Hamptons” with 44 seats, and the Lido buffet restaurant with 84 indoor seats and around 100 outdoor seats.
Technical Specifications:
• All voyages aboard HANSEATIC nature are 100% free of heavy fuel oil. The ship features a responsible waste-management and water-treatment system.
• Thanks to her high Polar Class PC6 rating, the ship can reach areas of Antarctica where many other vessels must turn back.
• The advanced propulsion system enables a speed of up to 16 knots, which means less time sailing and more time ashore exploring.
• A built-in SCR catalytic converter reduces NOx emissions by nearly 95%.
Onboard Experience:
• Full board dining in the main restaurant HANSEATIC, the specialty restaurant l’Esprit offering French cuisine, and the Lido restaurant with outdoor seating.
• A 180° Observation Lounge and the HanseAtrium bar — ideal for a drink, afternoon tea, or a glass of wine with sweeping views of the ice.
• Relaxation at the Ocean Spa, featuring a Finnish sauna with sea views, steam room, massage rooms, ice fountain, hair salon, beauty treatments, and a quiet room overlooking the ocean.
• A 100 m² sports club with fitness programs, equipment, and group classes.
• Expansive open-air decks, including the forward walkway, offering excellent vantage points for wildlife and ice formations.
• Learning and exploration in the Ocean Academy knowledge studio.
• Expert lectures and presentations from the expedition team held in the HanseAtrium.
Expedition Team:
• A highly experienced German-speaking expedition team leads lectures, Zodiac cruises, and shore landings.
• Optional sea kayaking is available on selected itineraries.
• Approximately 16 expedition experts accompany each Antarctic departure.
Expedition Equipment:
• 17 onboard Zodiacs for shore landings, trips to penguin colonies, iceberg cruising, whale watching, and general exploration.
