Your Trip at a Glance
This is the ultimate discovery journey. You set course through the Drake Passage and along the Antarctic Peninsula with the aim of being among the few who have crossed the Antarctic Circle. The further south you advance, the more dramatic sea ice, incredible wildlife, and breathtaking landscapes await you.
Should you arrive at 66°33’S, you will belong to the small group of Antarctic adventurers who can claim to have made it this far south. This will be celebrated!
Arrival Package:
Two pre-cruise nights with breakfast in one of the best hotels in Ushuaia along with the transfer to the ship are included in the travel price.
Post Itinerary Package:
You can fly back home, plan a subsequent program in Patagonia yourself, or have us plan a trip for you to the highlights in Argentina and Chile afterwards.
2. The Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Ushuaia
You arrive one day before your expedition and stay overnight at Ushuaia’s finest luxury hotel, the Arakur Resort & Spa. You can relax in the infinity pool, explore Ushuaia, or take a walk on the hiking trails surrounding the resort.
Day 2: Embarkation
In the late afternoon, you will be transferred to the ship. After meeting the expedition team, there will be a safety and orientation briefing, followed by a welcome dinner with the captain. Thus begins your sea voyage!
Days 3–4: Drake Passage
As you cross the Drake Passage, polar experts will guide you through the rich wildlife of Antarctica and its exciting history. You can participate in the Citizen Science program or observe seabirds with binoculars as you cross the Antarctic Convergence and enter Antarctic waters.
Day 5: South Shetland Islands
Over time, volcanic activity on the South Shetland Islands has created a unique geological landscape. Here, a breathtaking spectacle of mountains, glaciers, and wildlife such as chinstrap penguins and gentoo penguins awaits you; you might even encounter elephant seals and fur seals. Whales are often sighted as well. You board Zodiacs and spend most of the day exploring.
Days 6-9: Antarctic Polar Circle
Heading south across the Bransfield Strait, you’ll see the breathtaking outlines of the Antarctic Peninsula. Animal sightings become more frequent, including penguins, whales, and fur seals. If Antarctica’s unpredictable weather and ice allow, you’ll be among the lucky few to cross the Antarctic Circle, where the sun shines for 20 hours a day. Following a tradition established by sailors crossing the equator, we will celebrate this moment in a special way, which will remain a surprise. Afterwards, you’ll continue to a series of historic and rarely visited British survey bases before turning north again.
Days 10-12: Antarctic Peninsula
You follow in the footsteps of the first explorers as they reached the snow-covered continent, and watch countless penguins come ashore while Weddell seals lie on nearby ice.
Days 13-14: Drake Passage
Thanks to the Seaventure’s ice-strengthened hull, you can access the most remote and picturesque bays and harbors of Antarctica, where you may have the opportunity to land on sea ice.
Day 15: Disembarkation
The goal is to make two excursions daily, totaling six or more hours. At this time of year, the water is so clear that wildlife viewing opportunities are everywhere – whether in a kayak or a Zodiac.
