2. The Itinerary

You will be met in Ushuaia by a representative from your ship and taken to your hotel. In the afternoon between 3:00 PM and 7:00 PM, visit the reception desk at the hotel to collect your luggage tags and clarify details about the cruise and your further stay.
After breakfast, check out of the hotel. Label cabin luggage with name and cabin number and leave it at reception – it will be taken directly to the cabin on board. Please keep valuables with you. Participants of the Lake Escondido excursion meet at 8:45 AM in the hotel lobby. Panoramic drive over Garibaldi Pass with views of Lakes Escondido and Fagnano, visit to an estancia with lamb barbecue. Return for embarkation. Alternatively, free time until transfer from hotel or meeting point at the port. On board, move into cabin, safety briefing and departure with views of Ushuaia. In the evening, welcome dinner with the expedition team.
At the beginning of the Drake Passage, you get used to the movements of the sea. The expedition team explains important wildlife guidelines and biosecurity procedures and starts the lecture program on the history, wildlife and environment of Antarctica.
Arrival in Antarctica is an unforgettable moment – the first glimpse of an iceberg, the clear, fresh air – hardly describable in words. Over the next eight days, you will explore the Antarctic Peninsula and the South Shetland Islands. The expedition team puts together a daily program that flexibly adapts to weather, ice and wildlife. You will take Zodiac cruises and landings to penguin colonies and spectacular landscapes. You will often cruise through narrow straits or linger in quiet bays to observe whales. Enjoy the view from the lounge or – with some luck – from the open bridge. Listen to the rumble of calving glaciers and feel the magic of this pristine, white continent.
Enjoy a final landing on the South Shetland Islands before we cross the Drake Passage for the return journey to South America. The Antarctic experience is rounded off with lectures and films. Use the time to reflect on what you’ve seen and to exchange experiences. If weather permits, the captain will sail close to Cape Horn.
Early in the morning you reach the port of Ushuaia and can disembark from 8:00 AM. Say goodbye to your expedition team and fellow travelers. Guests with Aurora bookings or accommodations in the city center will be taken to the hotel. Travelers with flights before 12:30 PM will be transferred directly to the airport, later flights allow you to explore Ushuaia before the afternoon transfer. Transfer details will be communicated on board.
