Dunedin, New Zealand’s oldest city on the southeast coast, is called the “Edinburgh of the South” due to its Scottish roots. Founded in 1848, it displays many well-preserved Victorian and Edwardian buildings. On the Otago Peninsula, there are nature reserves with unique wildlife, including the only mainland royal albatross colony and rare yellow-eyed penguins.

Enderby, the third-largest Auckland Island off the northeast tip of Auckland Island (UNESCO World Heritage), has had a rich native flora and fauna since 1994 thanks to species protection. It is home to rare yellow-eyed penguins and the main breeding site for New Zealand sea lions. Hikes and Zodiac outings offer wildlife observations such as Auckland Island teal.

The Ross Sea, the southernmost sea in the world, was discovered in 1841 by Sir James Clark Ross. It is located near the South Pole, surrounded by islands and the Ross Ice Shelf. The cruise leads to Cape Adare with the largest Adelie penguin colony, Terra Nova Bay with research stations, and the old Drygalski Ice Tongue. On Inexpressible Island, you will learn about the Terra Nova Expedition, on Ross Island you will visit Shackleton’s hut. Franklin Island offers observations of Adelie penguins and Weddell seals. A journey to one of the last pristine marine regions with history, fascinating wildlife, and impressive nature.

Three fur seal species and one-seventh of the world’s elephant seals live here. Since 1948, Macquarie has been a research station for the Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions. Weather permitting, landings are possible to observe the rich wildlife.

Landings are prohibited, but in good weather, Zodiac outings are possible for coastal exploration and wildlife observation.
