1. Highlights of the Route

On your expedition journey, you will experience three legendary regions of the Southern Polar Area with their rich wildlife and impressive landscapes. From Puerto Williams, the Chilean “end of the world”, your route first leads across the open South Atlantic to the Falkland Islands. During your three-day exploration of the Falklands, you will discover beaches full of penguins, observe majestic albatrosses in flight, and explore the fascinating birdlife of this wind-swept archipelago. Afterwards, you will sail on to South Georgia, often referred to as the “Galapagos of Antarctica”. Three intensive days on this mountainous island offer unforgettable encounters with huge king penguin colonies and mighty elephant seals. The crowning finale is four days in Antarctica itself, where you will celebrate the New Year in one of the most spectacular landscapes of our planet – surrounded by glittering icebergs, majestic glaciers, and the unique wildlife of the white continent.

2. The Itinerary

Puerto Williams is a Chilean town on Navarino Island on the southern shore of the Beagle Channel. It calls itself the “southernmost city in the world”, but the Argentine city of Ushuaia on the other side of the channel also claims this title, as it is much larger than the small Puerto Williams with only 2,500 inhabitants. The landscape here is impressive. The wind-swept mountains rise above the tree line and are often snow-covered. Particularly striking is the backdrop of the “Dientes de Navarino”, which rivals the Torres del Paine in the north. Originally, the region was inhabited by the Yaghan, an indigenous people who, despite the difficult conditions, could not survive the arrival of the Europeans.
Days at sea are the ideal opportunity to relax, unwind and catch up on all the things you have been meaning to do for a long time.
New Island is home to king penguins, rockhopper penguins and albatrosses. Sea lions, orcas and shipwrecks adorn the island, which also offers historical sites from the Falklands War. West Point Island is home to black-browed albatrosses, rockhopper penguins and imperial cormorants. Steep cliffs, Commerson’s dolphins and whales characterize the landscape. Visitors are welcomed with “Smoko”.
Although Stanley appears typically British, it has more of Patagonia than Portsmouth about it. But despite the wind-swept, vast and beautiful landscape of the Falkland Islands, you won’t be surprised to enjoy a beer or fish and chips in a pub.

With snow-covered, deep black mountains, huge glaciers and rich wildlife, South Georgia is one of the most impressive natural islands. Here you will experience remote landscapes where animals are in charge and humans rather stay in the background.

A journey to Antarctica is a unique adventure – rugged, remote and breathtakingly beautiful. The Antarctic Sound, named after a ship from 1902, often marks the entry into this icy world. Massive icebergs from the Larsen Ice Shelf drift through the water. Chinstrap penguins and Cape petrels enliven the white expanse. Those who come here experience pure nature. Don’t forget your camera – the untamed beauty of Antarctica deserves to be captured.
The Antarctic Peninsula stretches towards South America, inviting adventurers to explore this pristine region. Just 620 miles from Tierra del Fuego, it offers a fascinating view of snow-covered landscapes and huge ice sculptures. Until 1820, the peninsula was undiscovered, making it a unique adventure. Scattered across the peninsula are research stations studying the extraordinary wildlife and human impact on this untouched continent. Here you can experience impressive icebergs and glaciers up close and observe thousands of cute Adelie penguins in their natural habitat.
King George, the largest of the South Shetland Islands, is often referred to as the gateway to Antarctica. Located just 120 kilometers from the Antarctic Peninsula, it is home to the only airport in the South Shetland Islands. This makes it the interface between “real life” and “Antarctic life”.
