2. The Itinerary

Puerto Williams is a Chilean town on Navarino Island on the southern shore of the Beagle Channel. It calls itself the “southernmost city in the world”, but the larger Argentine city of Ushuaia on the northern side of the channel also claims this title. The surroundings are impressive, with wind-swept, snow-covered mountains and the dramatic backdrop of the “Dientes de Navarino”. Originally, the Yaghan people lived here, a group of hunters and gatherers who did not survive the arrival of the Europeans.
Cape Horn – once the terror of seafaring – stands for raging storms, enormous waves and heroic courage. In 1616, Schouten and Le Maire charted the cape, named after their hometown of Hoorn in the Netherlands. Today, this remote, wind-swept place attracts adventurous travelers. An albatross monument near the Chilean naval base commemorates the many sailors who lost their lives here. On clear days, it stands as a silent symbol in the sky. Experiencing Cape Horn from the safety of an expedition ship is a moving moment – without the terror of times past.
A journey through the legendary Drake Passage is a unique experience that few people have. The southern tip of America already has a wild atmosphere, but the feeling of seeing the cliffs of the peninsula known as the “End of the World” is epic and magical. As you set sail from Cape Horn, you head into the icy underworld of Antarctica. There, enormous icebergs and animals like penguins and whales await you in their pristine environment. Your first sight of this region will likely be the South Shetland Islands, followed by famous locations like Elephant Island and Deception Island, once explored by brave discoverers.
A trip to Antarctica is a unique adventure – rugged, remote, and breathtakingly beautiful. The Antarctic Sound, named after a ship from 1902, often marks the entry into this icy world. Massive icebergs from the Larsen Ice Shelf drift through the water. Chinstrap penguins and Cape petrels enliven the white expanse. Those who come here experience pure nature. Don’t forget your camera – the untamed beauty of Antarctica deserves to be captured.
The Antarctic Peninsula juts out towards South America, inviting adventurous travelers to explore this untamed realm. Located just 620 miles from Tierra del Fuego, it offers many people an impressive first impression of the snow-covered landscapes and the enormous ice sculptures that characterize this least explored continent on Earth.
Days at sea are the ideal opportunity to relax, unwind, and catch up on all the things you’ve been wanting to do for a long time.
South Georgia is an impressive natural island with snow-covered mountains, enormous glaciers, and rich wildlife. Here, animals dominate, while humans play only a minor role. Experience the cries of birds, the wrestling of elephant seals, and the colorful king penguins. The island was once a whaling center, and you can visit the former whaling stations. Closely connected to Ernest Shackleton’s history, a museum commemorates his legendary rescue mission of 1916. The colonies of king penguins and majestic wandering albatrosses make South Georgia a unique experience.

Although Stanley seems typically British, it has more of Patagonia than Portsmouth. But despite the wind-swept, vast, and beautiful landscape of the Falkland Islands, it won’t surprise you if you enjoy a beer or fish and chips in a pub.
West Point Island, a northwestern outpost of the Falkland Islands, welcomes you with the calls of a large colony of black-browed albatrosses. Besides these impressive birds, many other species live here, including rockhopper penguins, imperial cormorants, and Magellanic penguins. Hike through the quiet landscape and discover endemic plants like the Felton flower. Cliff Mountain, the highest cliff on the island, provides a dramatic backdrop. Keep an eye out for Commerson’s dolphins and seals relaxing on the shores. In the afternoon, you’ll encounter impressive wildlife on the remote Saunders Island in the northwest of the Falkland Islands, such as elephant seals, silver grebes, and Peale’s dolphins. The island is home to one of the best bird populations in the Falklands, including a colony of king penguins. At the Neck, gentoo, rockhopper, and Magellanic penguins gather. A hike to the summit of Mount Richards offers a magnificent view of the surrounding islands.

Overlooking the vast Golfo Nuevo, the North Patagonian city of Puerto Madryn is one of the best places in Argentina to observe whales.

Your journey ends in Buenos Aires, the vibrant capital of Argentina. This fascinating metropolis uniquely combines old-fashioned colonial architecture with lively Latin American flair.
