2. The Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Ushuaia
Upon arrival in Ushuaia, you will be taken to the hotel by an Aurora Expeditions representative. If you are already in Ushuaia, please make your own way to the hotel, check-in is from 3:00 PM. In the afternoon, visit the hospitality desk at Las Hayas Ushuaia Resort to collect your luggage tags and clarify details about embarkation and the Beagle Channel cruise.
Day 2: Embarkation
In the morning, enjoy your breakfast and check out. Bring your cabin luggage, which you have labeled, to the reception. It will be transported to the port while you can explore Ushuaia in the morning. At 12:15 PM, meet in the hotel lobby if you want to participate in the optional catamaran trip. Alternatively, gather at 3:00 PM for the transfer to embarkation to begin your exciting adventure to Antarctica.
Day 3 to Day 4: At Sea
The journey across the South Atlantic to the Falkland Islands begins as you get accustomed to the movements of the sea. The expedition team provides you with important guidelines on wildlife and biosecurity to prepare you for the first landing. At the same time, the lecture program starts, offering exciting information about the history, wildlife, and environment of the region. Already on the way, you can expect numerous animal sightings, as majestic albatrosses and giant petrels accompany the ship, and you have the opportunity to take impressive photos.
Day 5 to Day 10: Crossing the Antarctic Peninsula and the Polar Circle
Arriving in Antarctica is an unforgettable experience, characterized by the sighting of the first iceberg and the freshest air on Earth. After arrival, the western side of the Antarctic Peninsula and the South Shetland Islands are open for exploration, with up to 24 hours of daylight.
Day 11 to Day 12: At Sea
The experienced expedition team shapes your journey daily based on the best opportunities regarding weather and wildlife observations. There are daily landings and Zodiac excursions to discover ice landscapes, whales, and penguin colonies. On land, you can walk at historic sites and enjoy optional activities while experiencing the impressive nature around you. Under favorable conditions, crossing the Antarctic Circle will also be celebrated, which represents a special highlight of the journey.
Day 13 to Day 17: South Georgia
During the voyage across the Scotia Sea, you can attend informative lectures about South Georgia. Relax in the sauna or stay active in the gym, according to your preference. The days at sea are entirely yours!
Day 18 to Day 17: At Sea
The experienced expedition team plans the route daily based on weather, sea conditions, and wildlife observations. Before the Zodiac excursions, layering clothing is important to prepare for exploring rugged bays and the coast. You can also discover the fascinating kelp forests. The Zodiacs take you ashore to visit some of the world’s largest king penguin colonies and walk among fur and elephant seals under the guidance of experienced guides. Additionally, optional activities are available whenever conditions allow. Besides the Zodiacs, cruises through fjords and scenic bays are planned. A perfect moment to relax in the observation lounge or visit the bridge to enjoy the impressive coast of South Georgia.
Day 20 to Day 21: Falklands - Malvinas
The impressive arrival of numerous seabirds accompanying the ship provides constant fascination between the Falkland Islands and South Georgia. The onboard lecture program continues with expert presentations. In addition to the informative lectures, numerous facilities are available, including a well-stocked library and a fitness center where you can stay active.
Day 22: At Sea
The Falkland Islands, also known as the Malvinas, consist of two main islands, East and West Falkland, and over 700 smaller islands, of which only seven are inhabited. These wind-swept islands offer white sandy beaches and crystal-clear water and are true wildlife paradises. Here you will find an impressive variety of bird species, including the world’s largest colony of black-browed albatrosses. The cool, nutrient-rich waters around the islands are also ideal for observing various marine creatures.
Day 23: Ushuaia
On the way to Ushuaia, you have the opportunity to edit photos, enjoy the onboard amenities, or attend final lectures. You celebrate the end of the journey with a special farewell dinner from the captain with newly made friends. Informative lectures and film presentations round off the experience as you enjoy the magic of the South Atlantic. Reflection and discussion about the impressions experienced are important. The hope is that you will become ambassadors for Antarctica and share about this unique journey to promote the protection of this region.
