1. Highlights of the Route

If this is your first trip to Antarctica, the Antarctic Explorer journey gives you an impression of the best of the breathtaking Antarctic Peninsula. You travel through the famous Drake Passage on a stabilized Polar Class PC6 ship, explore the majestic nature by Zodiac and on foot, get up close with penguins, whales and other wildlife, and enjoy lectures from polar experts on board about history, biology and glaciology. With this route, you will also sit in the twin-engine helicopter from your expedition ship as often as possible to hover over Antarctica and marvel at all the wonders below. You can customize your adventure with options that match your interests, such as ice camping or a sea kayak ride, and discover the 7th continent in your own way.

Arrival Package:

You can travel independently, have us plan an individual travel package for you, or opt for the local travel package from your ship for an additional fee.

The travel package for an additional fee includes:

2. The Itinerary

You begin your journey in Ushuaia, a small but bustling port town at the tip of South America. The small Argentine town is an ideal starting point to explore the southern part of Patagonia and prepare for the upcoming adventure. You enjoy the mountains or try handmade chocolate in one of the town’s cafes.
Embarkation takes place in the late afternoon, after which your ship sails through the historic Beagle Channel, which crosses the Tierra del Fuego archipelago in the southernmost part of South America. Look forward to the departure – the next time you see land, you will be on the southernmost continent in the world!
The days at sea are filled with lectures by your expedition team on photography, wildlife, glaciology, and history. Between lectures, you can watch for wildlife on deck or chat with your shipmates over a drink at the bar.
Awe and wonder is the most common feeling as soon as the 7th continent appears on the horizon. It is indescribable. Few places are as untouched as Antarctica. You will understand why the 7th continent has long attracted the attention of explorers and travelers alike. Each time you visit Antarctica, you experience something new or unexpected, which means your expedition will be different from all others – a unique, personal experience. Every day you will take Zodiac excursions from the ship to explore glaciated bays, channels, and landing sites. Your expedition team will take care of you at each landing, whether you are hiking the Antarctic landscape, visiting a research station, or meeting with chinstrap, Adélie, and gentoo penguins, all of which can be found here. On a Zodiac cruise, keep an eye out for Weddell, fur, crabeater, and leopard seals, as well as curious whales such as humpbacks, minkes, or perhaps orcas. Each excursion will present a new array of creatures to fascinate you and keep your camera busy. In the serene silence of Antarctica, loud interludes become indelible memories, such as penguins squabbling over precious pebbles or the rumble and crash of a calving glacier. Each day will be different and has been carefully put together by your expedition team to inspire you and bring you closer to this wonderful part of the world.
On the return journey, you have one more opportunity to enjoy the fresh Antarctic air. You spend time on deck, watching for seabirds and whales, enjoying presentations from your expedition team, and celebrating the shared experiences.
You will arrive in Ushuaia in the morning, where you can continue your adventure or catch your return flight.
