1. Highlights of the Route

- A renovated US research vessel from the 1970s, with which you will explore Antarctica with a maximum of 90 passengers in authentically preserved cabins.

2. The Itinerary
Day 1: Embarkation in Ushuaia
In the afternoon, you board the USHUAIA and meet the expedition team and lecturers. After settling into your cabins, you sail along the famous Beagle Channel and the picturesque Mackinlay Pass.
Days 2 to 3: At sea. Crossing the Drake Passage
The Drake Passage marks the Antarctic Convergence, where cold water meets warmer water, promoting biodiversity.
The expedition team will be on deck to identify seabirds and assist with whale watching.
With the USHUAIA’s open bridge policy, you can learn more about navigation.
First icebergs and snow-covered mountains herald the South Shetland Islands, where you can experience penguins and seals up close on day 3.
Days 4 to 9: Exploration of the Antarctic Peninsula, the South Shetland Islands, and attempt to cross the Antarctic Circle
Exquisite beauty and pristine landscapes await you on the west side of the Antarctic Peninsula. Countless icebergs drift in the waterways as you experience an impressive variety of wildlife, including penguins, seals, orcas, and whales.
You navigate scenic waterways like the Lemaire Channel and visit landing sites such as Paradise Bay and Cuverville Island, home to the largest Gentoo penguin colony.
Further explorations take you to the Antarctic Circle, with visits to the Ukrainian Vernadsky Station and the former British Faraday base. On the way north, the South Shetland Islands are also on the program, a true paradise for wildlife and impressive landscapes.
Days 10 to 11: At sea. Return journey through the Drake Passage northward
You leave Antarctica and head north through the Drake Passage.
Join the expert on deck as you look out for seabirds and whales and enjoy the final lectures.
Take the opportunity to relax and reflect on the unforgettable experiences of the past days on your way back to Ushuaia.
Day 12: Arrival in Ushuaia
You reach the port of Ushuaia early in the morning and disembark from the USHUAIA after breakfast.
