2. The Itinerary

Special flight from Buenos Aires to Ushuaia/Argentina, departure 6:00 PM
Day at sea and relaxation on board
You explore Stanley, the British overseas territory with Victorian houses in the South Pacific. Experience nature walks along the coast and visit the world’s southernmost Anglican church.
Day at sea and relaxation on board
You explore the subantarctic animal paradise, surrounded by massive glaciers and fjords. Marvel at the vibrant colonies of king penguins on the coasts and steep slopes. After landing, observe hundreds of thousands of elephant seals and fur seals from a safe distance. You also follow the historical traces of Sir Ernest Shackleton, whose final resting place is in South Georgia.
Day at sea and relaxation on board
You explore the lonely, glaciated South Orkney Islands in the Scotia Sea, a world characterized by ice deserts. These islands are home to chinstrap and Adelie penguins, which you can observe in their natural habitat. With a bit of luck, you may also discover icebergs drifting off the rugged coasts. In good weather (subject to approval), you will also gain insights into the lives of polar researchers at the Argentine Orcadas station during a visit with the Zodiacs.
You explore the elongated South Shetland Islands, including the legendary Elephant Island, where Shackleton’s crew persevered. The dramatic rock spires stand out against the horizon, while the evening sun tints snow fields a delicate pink. A journey into the flooded caldera of Deception Island is only possible with smaller ships like those of Hapag-Lloyd Cruises’ new expedition class. Accompanied by the crunching of ice, you approach the Antarctic Peninsula, where majestic glaciers and gigantic icebergs glitter in Paradise Bay. The impressive Lemaire Channel, flanked by mountains up to 1,000 meters high, offers a spectacular ship passage and promises thrilling moments.
The further south you advance on your expedition, the rougher and icier the landscape appears. The excitement builds on board as the crossing of the Antarctic Circle approaches. You wonder how far the ship can push into this inhospitable world dominated by dense ice fields and dominating glaciers. More icebergs drift on the sea, creating a special pioneering atmosphere.
