1. Highlights of the Route

In 2004, an emperor penguin colony was reached for the first time on Snow Hill Island. This is one of the rarest animal encounters worldwide. With experienced expedition leaders, the journey on the ship Ultramarine, equipped with two helicopters, leads to this rarely visited place. There you will experience the fascinating emperor penguins up close on the sea ice. With your expedition trip, you will enjoy unforgettable moments on the ice, aim to see over 4,000 emperor penguin breeding pairs and their chicks, and discover the natural wonders of the Weddell Sea. You will experience unique adventures on the east side of the Antarctic Peninsula.

2. The Itinerary

Your journey begins in Buenos Aires including a hotel overnight stay & transfer.
Flight to Ushuaia after breakfast, free time to explore the city, followed by embarkation in the afternoon and departure along the Beagle Channel.
Crossing the Drake Passage.
On board, world-renowned experts give presentations, providing you with insights into the heroic deeds of polar explorers from a century ago and telling you more about the emperor penguins living in the ice.
The journey through the Weddell Sea is guided by ice conditions, with current weather and iceberg reports directing the way to Snow Hill Island. When conditions are suitable, twin-engine helicopters set down participants near the island, after which the final stretch is covered on foot. Arrival reveals an impressive scene: thousands of emperor penguins in their natural environment. These days offer an extraordinary opportunity to study the penguins’ social behavior and experience the silent majesty of Antarctica.
